چکیده

Four evergreen broadleaf Rhododendron spp. (Rhododendrons), namely, aganniphum, R. nyingchiense, wardii, and triflorum, occur in harsh subalpine habitats the southwest Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP), China. Considering that four Rhododendrons cannot escape their unique environment, they must evolve a set of adaptations to survive, but information is lacking. To uncover physiological adaptation characteristics, present study, we monitored characteristics by determination seasonal variation antioxidant enzyme activity, osmotic adjustment substrates, carbohydrate contents, pigment content photosynthetic efficiency. The results showed superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase (POD), catalase (CAT) activities proline had significant difference autumn were insignificant summer. Specifically, aganniphum maximum protective activity winter as well chl a, b, car contents. values maximal quantum yield (Fv/Fm), photochemical efficiency (ΦPSII), non-photochemical quenching (NPQ) significantly higher summer than other seasons. lower qP indicated susceptible photoinhibition. Overall, similar physical habitats. parameters photosystem II (PSII), actual PSII, chlorophyll fluorescence quenching, increased Meanwhile, total soluble sugar content, carotenoid spring, autumn, winter. These suggested can adapt heat dissipation avoid damage excessive radiation during warm season while scavenging reactive oxygen increasing intracellular fluid concentration caused chilling temperatures cold findings would provide reference for conservation application these valuable ornamental Rhododendrons, enrich theory plant eco-physiology high altitudes QTP.

Environmental mycobacteria from alpine and subalpine habitats.

Abstract Mycobacteria were isolated from a variety of materials such as soil, peat, humus, tufa, sphagnum, and wood, collected in alpine and subalpine habitats. Mycobacteria, including Mycobacterium kansasii, Mycobacterium malmoense, Mycobacterium szulgai, Mycobacterium gordonae, Mycobacterium terrae, Mycobacterium chelonae, and Mycobacterium fortuitum were recovered from 69 of 81 (85%) samples...

Reproductive and physiological responses to simulated climate warming for four subalpine species.

* The carbon costs of reproduction were examined in four subalpine herbaceous plant species for which number and size of flowers respond differently under a long-term infrared warming experiment. * Instantaneous measurements of gas exchange and an integrative model were used to calculate whole-plant carbon budgets and reproductive effort (RE). * Of the two species for which flowering was reduce...

Effect of Environmental and Seasonal Factors on the Susceptibility of Different Rhododendron Species and Hybrids to Phytophthora ramorum

Although Rhododendron is the most important host of Phytophthora ramorum in Europe, there is little scientific information about the susceptibility levels of different Rhododendron species and cultivars. Increasing this knowledge would help nurseries in the management of the disease and could be used by plant protection services to target their inspections. In this study a total of 80 Rhododend...
